1. We should do whatever we can, consistent with the right of free speech, to reduce the climate of violence against women. Refusal to patronize things that advocate such violence (particular movies, rap music groups, authors e.t.c.) doesn’t deny the right of free speech, it simply assets the right to be opposed to the content of some free speech as morally wrong.

2. Our criminal justice system must ensure that accusers are not treated like criminals and that trials do not repeat the victim’s violation.

3. If the purpose of punishment is deterrence, then every effort needs to be made to punish offenders in ways that minimize the chance of recurrence.
