Explain Sulphur (IV) oxide as a pollutant.

- It is industrial waste in some chemical processes.
- On emission to the air it dissolves forming sulphurous acid.


- Sulphurous acid is readily oxidized to sulphuric (VI) acid; which attacks stonework and metal structures causing them to corrode.
- If breathed in, SO₂ causes lung damage.
