5.0g of calcium carbonate were allowed to react with 25cm3 of 1.0M hydrochloric acid until
there was no further reaction. Calculate the mass of calcium carbonate that remained
unreacted(Ca = 40, C = 12, O = 16).

Answers

Davis
CaCO3 + 2HCl (aq)---------> CaCl2 (aq) + H2O(l) + C02(g)
5.0g 25cm^3 1.0M
Moles of HCl =(25x 1.0)/1000= 0.025 moles
Moles of CaCO3 =0.025/2
= 0.0125 moles
mass of calcium carbonate reacted = 0.125 x 100
= 1.25g Mass
mass of CaCO3 un-reacted = 5.00 – 1.25
= 3.75g
