(i) Those who possessed the gift looked down upon others who didn’t

(ii) Those who had it thought it was the best and looked down upon other gifts.

(iii) People struggled to posses the gift of speaking in tongues.

(iv) Those who possessed it struggled to show off to others.

(v) Those who possessed them tried to compete /outdo each other in speaking in tongues.

(vi) They talked in tongues without having an interpreter.



Paul’s solutions

(i) He advised them to having other gifts rather than speaking in tongues.

(ii) He says that it’s meaningless for members of the church if there’s no interprets.

(iii) He says that all gifts are equal because they have one source – God.

(iv) He advises them to be organized in their talking that is, as one talks, others should be silent.

(v) He tells them that other gifts are better than talking in tongues because they lead to the growth of the church for example, Prophecy.
