RNA polymerase recognoses and binds to the promoter region. Promoter regions have consensus sequences known as pri TATA box with 3-5 sequence. The promoter regions identifies the start site of transcription and then arranges enzymes on the template strand.
RNA polymerases sepqarates two strands of DNA to the base sequence of the template. Transcription starts at the +1 base pair and the sigma factor is in turn released the moment transcription starts. The core polymerase continues moving along the template strand in the 3'-5' direction, by convention. Eventually, RNA polymerase reaches the transcription termination signal where it ceases trascription and produces complete and mature RNA molecule. There are two kinds of transcription terminators in prokaryotic cells; RHO independent terminator and RHO dependent terminator.
