Teaching may employ this technique in problem-solving situations. Four basic rules apply in brainstorming.
(i) Teacher or leader makes no judgments or comments on each idea as it is recorded on a flip chart or chalkboard.
(ii) Use of imagination is encouraged; the more creative the suggestions the more others are encouraged to think.
(iii) A large number of solutions are the goal, to make it more likely that one or more idea will be appropriate.
(iv) Building on the idea of another is encouraged.
