HOW COVID HAS AFFECTED GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAINS
1. Manufacturing issues- Manufacturing activities in countries like China faced significant disruptions due to the Corona virus, this is because many industries were temporarily forced to shut down after the pandemic. The raw materials required to manufacture could also come from different countries and continents, and the finished products may then require to be transported all over the world. The dependency upon logistics make it difficult in case of disruption to the supply chains.
2. Reduction in the product variety- this is due to closure of some industries that were greatly affected by the pandemic. Hence, the product variety in the market reduced.
3. Shortage in the supply chain- This is because many industries were closed down due to the pandemic and hence shortage of products in the market. Also, shortages in the raw materials was experienced were the companies depended on outsourcing raw materials globally.
