How much did Maina pay for a bag of potatoes?

If Maina sells a bag of potatoes for Ksh. 520, he makes a profit. If he had to sell the bag for ksh. 420, he would make a loss. If the profit is three times the loss, find how much he paid for the bag of potatoes?

Let the buying price for a bag of potatoes be x

(520 - x) = 3(x - 420)

520 - x = 3x - 1260

1780 = 4x

Therefore x=445

Buying price for a bag of potatoes is Ksh. 445
