Formation of braided channels

This happens when the river's energy declines and it's load is deposited on its bed.
This leads to the formation of shoals which eventually grow to become temporary alluvial islands known as eyots.
The eyots raise the river bed blocking the smooth flow of water.
The river is subdivided into distributaries in its attempt to flow over the obstacles.
The channels created are referred to as river braids.
