-Over-reliance on imported goods may cause suffering incase of differences or wars between countries
-Goods/services bought from other countries may pose a threat to the growth of local infant industries due to unhealthy competition
-Harmful goods/services can easily be imported into the country e.g drugs and pornographic material
-It may lead to erosion of cultural values due to apping of foreign habits
-It opens a country to political/ideological blackmail by the influenced trading partners
-It may lead to dumping where the local market is flooded with cheap and inferior goods from other countries
-May lead to exhausion of a countries non-renewable resources such as oil and other minerals
-It will lead to balance of payments deficit due to importation of expensive goods and services
