Idolatry refers to the worship of idols, other gods instead of God.Jeremiah taught that idolatry was a form of corrupting monotheism, hence he called the people back to the worship of God, Yahweh.Jeremiah termed their practice of idolatry as rebellion of God's covenant with them. Their acts of apostacy and infidelity was so great, they could not escape God's judgement, and they had defiled the temple with idols.
Jeremiah therefore urged the people to repent and go back to God.
