(i) Velocity ratio of the system.
(ii) Purpose of pulley 2.
(iii) Given that the machine has an efficiency of 80%, determine the maximum load that can be raised.

(i) Velocity ratio = 2

(ii) To change the direction of the effort

(iii) 80 = $\frac{M.A.}{V.R}$ x 100 = 1.6

But M.A = $\frac{Load(L)}{effort(E)}$ = 1.6 x 500 = 800N
