Peter owns a small farm and grows mangoes and pineapples.After one harvest she increased her mango supply by 50% but also sold half of her pineapples.Given that she has a net loss of 10 fruits after the harvest and that she has the same number of mangoes as pineapples after the harvest,how much fruit did she initially have?

lets have the initial number of mangoes as M, pineapples as P and the total as x
so she had:
M + P = x .................................(i)
she then sold 50% more mangoes which is 50/100 M
= 1.5M
and a half the pineapples, which is
= 0.5P
and the total number of fruits was 10 less the first round, thus be
= x-10
so, we find that she took:
0.5P + 1.5M =x - 10 .......................................(ii)
we are also told that the number of mangoes and pineapples she took t=for the second time (0.5P and 1.5M) were equal, so
0.5P = 1.5M
thus, dividing through by 0.5,
we find that
P = 3M
Applying this to the equation (i)
we substitute P with 3M
hence: M + P =x
= M + 3M = x
hence: 4M = x
applying this to equation (ii)
1.5M + 0.5P = x-10 (but x=4M, P=3M)
1.5M + 0.5(3M) = 4M - 10
1.5M + 1.5M = 4M - 10
3M = 4M - 10
hence 10= M
Wwe know that x=4M
hence x = 10x4
x = 40
we also know that, P = 3M
Hence: P = 10x3
P = 30
from the question, we are ask to provide the number of fruits she took tothe market the first time, we have them as:
10 Mangoes, 30 Pineapples and a total of 40 fruits
