PATRICK
. Land forming processes lead to the formation of lines of weakness within crustal rocks.
. Build up of pressure in the mantle forces magma to move from the mantle to the sub-crustal
layer or to the surface.
. The magma that fails to reach the earth surface cools slowly and solidifies to form igneous
rocks with large crystals,for example,granite.
. Upon reaching the surface, lava cools rapidly and solidifies to form rocks with small crystals
,for example basalt.
. When cooling and solidification is extremely rapid on the surface, rocks without crystals are
formed,for example obsidian.
