- In the clothing factory, threads are interwoven to produce the material.

Some of these threads are made to lie vertically while others are woven over and under the vertical threads. Vertical threads of a fabric are strong and and long and are known as warps. They are parallel to the selvedge, the self neatened edge of any fabric.

They lie along the selvedge which does not have any hanging threads.

The threads of a material that are woven over and under the warps threads are known as weft threads and are weaker and shorter that warps.

They are also referred to as filling threads
