Most vegetarians tend to live an isolated life, isolating themselves from members of their families and friends. They feel that their lifestyle is so unique and that no one would understand or respect their lifestyle. They feel they do not fit in the community because there are no more privileges left for them to enjoy than other people. What they tend to forget is that no man is an island!

Isolating oneself can lead to disastrous health effects. The impact of loneliness on health is much worse than smoking and obesity. Loneliness causes sadness which may eventually develop into depression, alcoholism and drug abuse. Such emptiness may just distract one’s emotional well-being.

Increased isolation opens suicidal doors because of perceived increased stress. It is even incredible that lonely people experience a lot of stress even when relaxing. Stress becomes a part and parcel of their lifestyle.

Loneliness increases the level of blood pressure. It subjects the heart muscle to work harder, hence damaging the blood vessels. This increases the level of blood pressure and explains why no man is an island – people need each other.

Loneliness due to isolation increases sleep disorders. One ends up not getting quality sleep. These are the kind of people that will wake up more at night and spend less time in bed. They do not receive efficient sleep at all.

Loneliness also causes altered brain function. One may not realize, but they may be developing high sensitivity to noise, water, dirt and even light. The brain functions abnormally and due to this, sensitivity gradually develops.

Another reason why no man is an island is that excessive isolation causes loss of appetite. This means that one will be depriving themselves of the essential nutrients that the body needs, even from a vegetarian diet. Skipping meals due to appetite loss has

got its own misfortunes.

Loneliness affects the normal functioning of ones genes. This makes the immune system to respond negatively hence causing inflammation. Other genes that relate to the immune system are also suppressed. What this means, generally, is that loneliness changes the entire functioning of one’s immune system making them vulnerable to a number of diseases.

All these effects of loneliness wrapped together, lead to early aging. Stress, lack of sleep, alcoholism, drug abuse, and high blood pressure among others will make one age early than their normal years. This early aging may even lead to early death.

In conclusion, vegetarians should desist from this habit of isolating themselves because they are so dangerous to their health. Besides, it is possible for them to quit this habit of isolation. They should understand all the harmful effects that they will experience when they subject themselves to isolation. This should at least help them conclude that no man is an island.

There are many more vegetarians on earth; it is not just one person. So it is possible for vegetarians to form quality relationships amongst themselves. This will help them share common attitudes and interests.

Vegetarians should always learn to expect the best, having said these. They will experience minimal degree of isolation, and this is when they will realize that no man is an island. They will see that they are as equally valuable as anyone else in the community and of course lead a healthy life – free from isolation.
