Compost manure is one of the main components of plant nutrients and soil life. I would like to inform our farmers how to prepare the compost manure and its importance as follows:-

Compost making is one of the most important agricultural practice that each and every farmer should do by following this small procedure.

First before you start making compost manure ensure you have all the equipment and materials required such as:- jembe, panga, spade, dry matter(maize stalk, straws, dry grass, sugarcane leaves, dry beans stalk etc), green leaves(beans, titonia, shrubs etc),ashes, animal waste(cow dung, poultry droppings, shoats droppings, rabbit or pigs) and water.

After you have collected all this material select a suitable site i.e free from water run-off and any other disturbance that may destroy the hip.

Now start by digging up the ground to 1 ft deep and any length and with of your choice as long as its reasonable.

Sprinkle the ashes on the ground then water, spread the dry matter and pour the animal waste on top of the dry matter, then put the green leaves the cover with a thin layer of soil and spring water to make the first layer.

Repeat the process up to 1.5 meters high then insert a tree diagonally and ensure it penetrates to the ground at the other side, this will help you to monitor the temperatures.

Leave the heap for 3 weeks undisturbed then rearrange the layer starting from the top layer going up and leave for another 3 weeks, repeat the rearrangement until 3 months time is over that is when the manure is ready for use.

Importance of compost manure

- It adds humus to the soil.

- It is a cheap source of plant nutrients.

- It has no chemical substance hence pure natural healthy foods are produced.

- It is cheap as
it uses the locally available materials to make.

- It helps to improve the soil structure.

It is my recommendation that farmers should use this manure in planting there crops as they do not compromise with your health and environment at large.
