Uses of cow dung in our homesteads

Cow dung is the undigested residue of plant matter which as passed through the animals gut.
The cow dung is one of the most useful animal waste in our society. In Kenyan rural homes, the cow dung is use as follows:
i) Manure- well decomposed cow dung is used to fertilize our farms and as a result improves the yield of different crop varieties.
ii) Biogas production- it is used to produce biogas for cooking and lighting.
iii) Floor and wall coating-its used to smear the mud houses as it helps to reduce cracking and act as a water proof.
iv) Pond PH balancer and manure-its applied to ponds to manure and to balance the PH for better production of fish.
v) Burned to repel mosquitoes- its used traditionally to repel mosquitoes since its smoke has a smell that repels mosquitoes.
vi) Pot cleaner- its use dry to absorbs oil and fat wet as a general cleaner.
vii) Treatment of boils and heat rash (skin tonic) - mixed with crushed neem leaves or aloe vera sap and smeared on skin.
viii) Fuel- dried cow dung is burned to produce heat for cooking.
