Simplify the following expression

Class: Form 1

Subject: Mathematics

Topic: Linear Equations

Lesson Summary

Simplify the expression x-1x-2x+13x hence solve x-1x-2x+13x= 23

Text Answer

𝑥−1x-2𝑥+13x=3(𝑥−1)−1(2𝑥+1)3x
=3𝑥−3−2𝑥−13x
=𝑥−43x

Solving:
𝑥−43x=23
3(𝑥−4)=3𝑥×2

3𝑥−12=6𝑥

3𝑥−6𝑥=12

-3x-3=12-3

x= -4
