Universities Offering Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics (Data Science and Analytics )

Holders of First Class or Upper Second Class honours degrees in the relevant academic fields from recognized universities, or
Holders of Lower Second Class degrees plus postgraduate diplomas or certificates, or with at least two years’ relevant experience, or
Holders of other related qualifications from recognised universities, considered by the Academic Council as equivalent to the criteria in (i) or (ii).
In addition, the applicant must have obtained the minimum university entry requirement i.e. scored at least a C+ in their KCSE (or its equivalent).

The course takes ;Two (2) Academic Years

Total fees for MSc DSA: Currently - Kshs 1,207,000. (which is payable over the six (6) semesters of the programme).

Admission Process:

If the applicant meets the above entry requirements, then they are invited to sit for a written Graduate Entrance Exam (GEE). All applicants MUST sit and pass the GEE consisting of a written exam followed by an oral interview. The written exam entails English comprehension and grammar, arithmetic as well as an essay. Once the applicant has completed and passed the written exam, they are scheduled for an oral interview.

NB: The GEE is administered every Wednesday and Friday at 2:00 pm.

Admissions Requirements

Duly filled in Graduate Application Form (Downloadable).
Two (2) completed Reference Forms from your professional background or from former professors particularly qualified to attest to the applicant’s qualification for graduate study (Downloadable form).
Certified copies of undergraduate degree certificate and transcript of records (TOR) in English giving full details of subjects studied and grades/marks obtained.
Certified copy of your Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education-KCSE certificate (Secondary/High School Certificate or its equivalent).
An updated Curriculum Vitae. Please use the Europass CV template (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu).
Two (2) current passport size photos.
A copy of National Identity Card (ID) or a copy of Passport (bio-data page).
Ksh. 2,500 Interview fee is payable on the interview day.

Specialisations

The programme offers two specialisations:

Business Analytics – for participants interested in learning how to pull/discover/find insights from business data, and those who want to improve processes and outcomes within a business.
Computational Statistics – for participants interested in improving data science algorithms and analytics and/or want to transition into becoming a Data Science researcher.

The fee is Kshs. 200,000 per module and dissertation.

Entry requirements
A holder of a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum Upper Second Class Honours from a recognized university in a numerate subject, such as mathematics, operational research, statistics, computer science, management science, economics, actuarial science, financial engineering, engineering or a suitable science degree. If an applicant’s background in Statistics or Mathematics is insufficient, satisfactory auditing of some units taught in the undergraduate programme may be required during the first year of study, as directed by the Chairman of the Department.
