The writer satirizes social systems that consign the poor to perpetual poverty while ensuring that the rich continue swimming in luxury.The poor can only sample the wealth enjoyed by the rich if they win raffle draws as evident in the narrators case.

Corporate bodies such as Malalwi Air have been satirized for placing much emphasis on their corporate image at the expense of individual rights of their employees. Tartha is not allowed to give her side of the story and is instead summarily dismissed simply to reckless comments made by an intoxicated passenger.

Negligent employees who lack professionalism have been satirized.The receptionist of Malawi Air seems to be forever on the phone speaking endlessly.It is ironical that the receptionist being the face of the company is expected to address the inquiries made by the clients in a cordial and welcoming manner yet she is not welcoming at all.

The narrator satirizes social injustice and inequalities especially against women .Thousands of women are smuggled across borders with promises of lucrative jobs only to be sold into slavery.Injustice is also evident in the plight of passengers.The buses are crowded and uncomfortable.The bus operators are greedy and are determined to maximize profit at the expense of their passengers.

Alcoholism is a vice that has been satirized by the writer.The narrator's negative comment's about Tatha is as a result of alcoholism. He wrote the report while under the influence of alcohol. His irresponsible act has led to loss of employment of an innocent Airline worker,Tatha. His responsible behavior is further evident in his act of pressing the bell - button over his head to ask for more beer even when his glass is still full.
