(a) What is soil profile
(b) Name and describe the four soil layers

Soil profile is the vertical arrangement of various soils in layers.

Horizon A is the uppermost layer which lies under the mat of surface vegetation and raw humus.
Horizon B is where most of the materials washed down from Horizon A have been accumulated. The substances are trapped here because of the nature of the soil in this horizon.
Horizon C is a layer of partly weathered rock with no humus or other additions from above.
Horizon D is the solid underlying rock.
