The following are the four main reasons that can make pipeline transport of oil appropriate:
1. Cost of Transporting:- when the cost of transporting oil by pipeline method is cheaper than any other means, it is rendered appropriate.
2. Government Policies:- if the government in rule decides that pipeline is the method to be used to transport the oil, it is just rendered appropriate despite availability of other means.
3. when the receiving port requires a fluent/uncut flow of oil, only pipeline transport can answer to that requirement thus, rendering pipeline transport the appropriate means of transporting oil.
4. When it is the only means of transporting oil available:- this applies in cases such as across rivers, swamps, forests or sometimes games reserve where other means of transport are not allowed, or when the it is only pipeline means of transport that is available, these situations render pipeline transport of oil appropriate.
