a)Tandem Parlor
-Allows for individual care of the cows.
-Used mostly for smaller commercial herds.
-Its capacity in terms of cows milked per hour and labor efficiency can compare to that of a small herringbone parlor.
Drawbacks when using tandem parlor.
-More expensive to construct.
-Larger space requirement for the construction.
Merits.
-Used for herds with high yielding cows.

b)Abreast Parlor
-Allows cows to enter and leave individually.
-In case a bucket milking machine is used the stands used should be 1.0 to 1.1 m wide.
Drawbacks.
-There are relatively long distance to walk between milking points.
-The cows obstructs the herdsman since they share the same floor space.
-The milker works at a lower level than the cows stand.
Merits.
-Can be used for herds of more than 40 cows.
