He came up with three structures of personality
1. The ed
-Consists of instincts that the individual is born with and from the Ed that the ego and super ego comes from
-The ed consists of instincts
-It includes instinctual drives of aggression and sex
-The ed is driven by libido which is a force that direct the Individuals behavior
-The libido operates in all the three systems
-The ed becomes uncomfortable when there stimulation as a Result one sits immediately to reduce the tension and return
the organism into its normal state
- The ed seeks immediate gratification of primitive pleasure Seeking impulses
- It therefore operates on the pleasure principle i.e. it endeavors to avoid pain and obtain pleasure regardless of any external

- It is said to be irrational, demanding, antisocial, immoral, illogical and inhibited

2. EGO
-Develops out of the ed because of the necessity of dealing with the whole world
Ego obeys the reality principle which demands that we taste reality and delay discharge of tension until inductive environmental conditions are available.
- The ego is the executive of personality cause it decides what Action s are appropriate or which ed impulses should be gratified and in what manner
- The ego meditates because the demand of the ed, the realities of the world(ego) and the demands of the super ego

3. SUPER EGO
This is the third part of personality and it is a representation of internalized values and morals of a society that individuals were taught by their parents and the society at large
- The super ego judges whether an action is right or wrong according to the societal standards
-The super ego rewards the individual by making him/her feel Proud when he has done the right thing
-It also punishes the individual for doing the wrong thing by Making him/her feel guilty and this is done through the
Conscience of the individual
Functions of super ego
- Inhibiting the impulses of the ed especially those that are Prohibited by society i.e. aggression
- Persuades the ego to substitute realistic goals for moralistic Ones
- It strives for perfection
