Satire is commonly used by writers to mock certain behaviors in the society.The use of satire provokes us to critically look at the shortcoming that characterize individuals and institutions .The author in the Caucasian Chalk Circle highlights motherhood as an institution that has been satirized.

The playwright satirizes motherhood in the image of Natella, the wife to the governor George Abashwili.She becomes jealous of her own son,Michael,complaining to her husband that he will only build for his little Michael;never for her.This is uncharacteristic of a mother.After the fat prince overthrows the government and the Governor is beheaded, Natella Abashwili flees the town leaving behind her biological son Michael , who is rescued by a house maid Grusha who saves him from the iron shirts who are following to kill him. Bertolt makes Grusha motherly painting Natella as a woman who is hopelessly too selfish to be motherly.

Justice and fairness have also been satirized in the play. Adzak ,typically a rascal , becomes a judge and proceeds to preside over cases , making controversial judgments devoid of any legal backing.He asks for bribes without any fear from the rich and judges the poor fairly.He erroneously divorces Grusha from Jussup instead of the old couple and uses the parable of the Chalk Circle to decide the maternity dispute.

Religion has also been satirized. Lavrenti's wife Aniko even though claims to be religious mistreats Grusha and the baby and finds any way they may get out of her house.Instead of welcoming Grusha and Michael she is busy baking and eating cakes with her husband Lavrenti. When Grusha was married to Jussup, Bretch makes fun of religion when he highlights that Jussup's mother hired a cheap drunken monk to preside over the wedding ceremony ,instead of a priest.
The use of satire has been used to bring out the issues of motherhood ,religion and justice.By this Bretch make fun of these institutions by provoking his audience to critically assess the situations and make their own judgments.
