Positive thinking is important in one's daily life especially when dealing with challenges because when one thinks positively, their brains direct them to deal with problem positively.
Steve the husband to Maureen thinks positively. He does not allow the rum ours going round to invade his mind and spirits .He is positive about Maureen's status and says ".....it is Maureen who let the sun shine in my eye."Maureen's former husband gives in to his illness. His mind refuses to fight it "......he closed his eyes and willed himself to death..."

Steve asks Maureen not to blame herself for anything for if he does that she will lose the spirit to fight the disease....Steve tells her "never cry when the sun goes down for if you do,the tears will not let you see the stars."he ha to stay positive.
Maureen is positive about Steve and she says that "......Steve would live he had the will. "
Steve requests Maureen to ignore people like kanja who stigmatiZe them.It takes the power of the mind to deal with such people. He goes ahead and asks Maureen to count her blessings and he encourages her by telling her that "......there is hope."He tells her to fight on ".......I have told you many times that you should banish thoughts of death from your mind."
In the end Maureen dies because he loses the urge to live.
In conclusion ,positive thinking works by urging people to fight on .Had Maureen thought positively she wOuld have survived.
