-Pulling the material diagonally and lengthwise to make the grains (warps and wefts) lie straight on the material making right angles with each other.
-Check for faulty areas on the material.such as missing threads, factory faults, stains etc
-press the material to remove creases and folds making the material straight and easy to measure
