i) Cotton and linen- Cotton burns with a yellow flame and leaves a grey ash. While burning it emits the smell of burnt paper. Linen burn and leave ashes and emits the smell of burning grasses.

ii) Wool and silk- Wool burns with a spluttering noise and smolders leaving a black ash. It smells like burnt feathers. Silk also splutters and emits the smell of burnt feathers.

iii) Asbestos and acrylic_-Asbestos melts and a forms gummy substance called residue while acrylic shrinks and melts into a tar-like head, burns with a sooty flame leaving a hard round black bead.


iv) Polyester and nylon –It shrinks and melts. It burns with difficulty emitting a smell of celery leaving behind a hard round bead. Nylon repels flame andmelts into a hard bead.
