He was sent by the church missionary service and was supported by Seyyid Said. He began his work among the coastal people since they were friendly
He was joined by John Rebmann and together they worked in Rabai and Mombasa and later established a mission in 1846
Jacob Erhardt arrived in 1846
In 1862, members of the united Methodist church arrived from Britain under the leadership of Thomas Wakefield. They opened missions at Jomvu and Lamu. The CMS opened stations at Sagala in Taita and at Taveta in the interior
In 1892, the Church of Scotland mission began their work in Machakos but later moved to central Kenya
The second group to arrive in Ukambani was the African inland mission from the United States who established their first station at Nzau.
After the construction of the railway line, some French catholic missionaries established a mission station near Nairobi
By 1914, several Christian societies, church of god mission, the seventh day Adventist and the friends mission who were all working in western Kenya
