
a. The three arms of the Kenyan government are:
i. Legislature: this is the law making arm of the government. It is also referred to as the parliaments.
ii. Executive: this is the arm of the government that implements laws. It is made up of the president, cabinet and civil servants
iii. Judiciary: this is the arm of the government that interprets the law. It is commonly referred to as the courts
b. The various forms of government in the world are:
i. Democratic government: the leaders are elected into office through popular vote or elections. The elected then represent the wishes and aspirations of the people
ii. Aristocratic government: in this form of government, a group of people from the highest or the royal in the society rule the rest thus any member of the nobility can seek election or appointment to government office
iii. Monarchical government: in this system of government democracy is practiced but aristocracy is respected. Parliament is a supreme organ while the royal power is retained as a tradition
iv. Dictatorial government: in this form of government the ruler is a dictator and has total power over his subjects. Dictators make rules and execute them. Dictators curtail and suppress the freedom of their subjects.
b) Government is taught in Kenyan schools for the following reasons:
i. It helps to understand how laws are made and enforced
ii. To learn how development forums are formulated
iii. To learn how government raises and spends revenue
iv. To learn how power is vested in different government organs
v. To appreciate and understand the need for government
vi. It helps us to know our roles as citizens and the roles of the leaders
