(i) Solomon gained a reputation for wisdom in settling disputes.

(ii) He brought the Ark of the Covenant to the Temple in Jerusalem.

(iii) He built up a professional army and equipped it with horse-drawn chariots.

(iv) He built a temple for God in Jerusalem as a fulfilment of God's promise to David.

(v) He collected and composed thousands of proverbs and songs which were used in teaching and worship.

(vi) He established and developed trade links with other countries which led to economic prosperity in Israel.

(vii) Solomon initiated industrial activities and exploited copper deposits in the area of Edom which had been conquered by David.

(viii) He strengthened the political position of his kingdom by entering into political and matrimonial alliances with neighbouring nations.

(ix) Solomon divided the kingdom into administrative districts in order to exploit the resources more effectively.

(x) He initiated an ambitious building programme in which he fortified Jerusalem and other cities.
