(i) Showing disrespect for the sacred places.

(ii) Some deaths are due to divine call.

(iii) Failure to carry out cleansing rituals.

(iv) Curses by the elders.

(v) The practice of magic and witchcraft.

(vi) Old age.

(vii) Broken oaths or false swearing.

(viii) Disrespect for the ancestors.

(ix) Breaking of the established taboos.


OR

i. A curse by a senior relative. If one fails to show respect to such seniors.
ii. One could also die due to breaking a taboo in such instances elders would identify the
offender and perform an act of cleansing.
iii. A curse by the community.
iv. Angering the living dead and the spirits e.g. if a person may not have been buried
properly.
v. Taking oaths falsely.
vi. Dishonoring or insulting God. These could be through words or deeds.
vii. Magic, sorcery and witchcraft. The degree of which witchcraft as a cause of death is
emphasized varies from one community to another.
