Tips on how to write a good composition.

A good composition or writing is clear in objective, ideas chronologically arranged say in terms of time, well arranged paragraphs and either imaginative or creative. The following are prerequisites or qualities that an examiner has interest when awarding written compositions especially in schools.

1. Originality and Creativity

You should depict your capability in writing through use of appropriate words, phrases and figures of speech. You should avoid being fictitious, give personal response and use your personal imagination. Develop unique ideas which are creative in a way.
Use different sentences that may be useful to the target group. Avoid being emotional in writing, you are subject to committing a fallacy. Never try to write a story by coping one that you heard somewhere, the examiner may have had a glimpse of it and this may reduce your award.

2. Appropriate punctuation and Accuracy

The sentences you use should be correctly punctuated. Tenses should also correct, the subject- verb object sentence structure should be used. Choice of words, vocabularies used must be at least familiar and not hefty, debar repeating words and vocabularies. Logical facts when it comes to explaining or discussing what is known with correct spellings should be encouraged.

3. Description and Chronology

A good composition has an introduction, a body and an end. Ideas should follow each other in a sequence both in actions and time of occurrence. Paragraphs must be well raised and sentences having the S-V-O format whereby the long ones are combined well using conjunctions where appropriate. Be elaborate giving correct vivid description of actions.

4. Neatness and tidiness

The handwriting is as important as the other elements. Good handwriting makes the work attractive to read.

5. Simplicity

Use about one page and half of the writing material, otherwise if instructions are given then follow to the letter.

Avoid short or very long composition as this may bore the examiner.

Moreover, the title or topic of study should relate to your written work. A good composition should be proofread before submission. This is to check for errors. Some institutions prefer that children especially in lower block from the first grade to the fifth should give correct facts in the writing lest they be expelled from the institution for breeding minds that may pose a threat to the nation because of developed creativity that may think otherwise.
