Summary

Report on How the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence Can Effectively Treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Victims and First Responders- Firefighters

1.0 Introduction
1.1Background of the study
The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has a crucial mandate of dispensing health and care services of varied nature (Charlton 2019, pp. 1-35). It is with this realisation that this report seeks to build on the effectiveness of the services being delivered by NICE and to enlighten interested stakeholders in order to make them acquainted with the current post-traumatic stress disorder treatment (PTSD). The joint effort between NICE and other interested stakeholders will increase the effectiveness of treating PTSD, which is a condition that develops in victims of unfortunate circumstances. According to NHS (2017), PTSD condition may arise from several circumstances which may include: Torture, losing babies at birth, bad or serious health conditions such as being admitted in intensive care units, substance abuse, exposure to traumatic incidences, sexual or physical assaults, fatal accidents, terrorist attacks and robbery. The other persons susceptible to PTSD are people with anxiety and depression conditions, who in one way or the other never, or do not get adequate support from their friend, family and relatives. The other group of potential victim of PTSD, though in small numbers, are the persons who acquire the condition through genetic inheritance. Study reveals that there is a relationship in PTSD genetic transmission between closed family members, especially, parents and their children (Leen-Feldner et al. 2013, pp.1106-1133). This report, however, has focused on the role of NICE in executing its mandate in treating PTSD, and possible efforts to improve the effectiveness of treating PTSD in victims and fire fighters in the event of terrorist attack.
