Lesson Summary

A certain poultry farm keeps hens, ducks and turkeys. The ratio of hens to ducks is 5 : 2. The number of turkeys is 35 less than the number of hens. If there are 30 ducks, how many turkeys are there?

A.40
B.75
C.65
D.105

Text Answer

The ratio hens : ducks = 5 : 2

Total number of shares = 5 + 2 = 7

This means that 57 shares are hens and 27 shares are ducks

Let total number of hens and ducks be x

Number of ducks are 27 of x =30

X = 30×72=105

Hence, number of hens = 105×57=75

Number of turkeys= 75 – 35 = 40

The correct answer is A (40).
