The quality of education in Kenya is deteriorating day in day out. The priced education that our fathers received from school was very powerful than what we of recent generation are getting from the same schools. The quality of Language, that is English and Kiswahili, of the old schools is far much better than the English we spoke today. It is a pity to realize the fact that many so called learned persons cannot communicate well in English and Kiswahili. This shortcoming in languages can be attributed to certain factors that are manifested in our schools and the system of education.

First, the teachers of languages in our institutions of learning are considered inferior a compared to their counter pats who teach other subjects such as Mathematics and sciences. This discrimination creates a phobia of language subject leading to a negative inclination towards the subjects.

Secondly, people lack in the leading culture. It is rarely to get a person reading a book that is beyond the school word or reading. People exclusively concentrate much on the school works and the only related literature and very few who read that much after school. Reading novels and other literature materials are considered to be a waste of time by many. People watch television and other forms of visual media instead of reading.

Use of some non-standard languages such as Sheng has really undermined the proper use of languages,

In conclusion, people should put more emphasis on the appropriate use of languages. They should bear in mind that an English language is the one that determines the understanding of other languages it states where English is the language of instruction.
