Pollution
Soil erosion leads to the discharge of agrochemicals and other chemical pollutants into rivers, lakes and oceans. This interferes with the aquatic life and contaminates water bodies.
Decline in agriculture.
The loss of productive fertile soils leaving behind bare stony soils lowers the agricultural productivity of the land. This leads to low agricultural yields hence food shortages.
Floods
Soil erosion blocks river channels and reduces the depth of rivers by increasing deposits on their beds. This contributes to frequent floods.
Siltation of dams.
Soil erosion leads to the Siltation of water resources along the river channels. This reduces their utility like in hydroelectric power generation and irrigation.
