The play has shown and depicted several characters that evolve and undergo major transformation what they believe in. Mosese,Jere and Jusper are good examples.

To begin with,we meet Jere as a soldier and an inmate. The government had sent him with another soldier Mulili to stop the shaving Ceremony which Nina and Doga are determined to have for the dead Adika. Jere begins to plead with Mulili to have the old couple go on with the ceremony, after he realizes that Doga is like a father to him. Mulili later make him land behind bars for boldly telling him off.

Mosese a university lecturer finds himself behind bars on framed up charges. This is as a result of attacking the government during Adikas burial. Even in confinement,he is not ready to compromise his principles for his release. He undergoes a transformation when he agrees to take part in the play to entertain the visiting head of state. He therefore plays a crucial role at the end of the play when there is a coup to take over the government.

Jusper is a critic of the government authorities in Kafira. He has written critical plays and as he says, his plays can not be published because they are too nude and that the publishers tell him to cloth them if he wants them to be published. He is branded a traitor by his fellow university students when they realize that he has decided to take part in the play to be acted for the visiting head of state. Jusper therefore undergoes a transformation as he is an instrument used in bringing change in Kafira.
