-facing should not be seen on the other side of the garment
-should be flat on both the R.S and W.S
-should serve the right purpose i.e if decorative should add to the style of the garment
-seam line should be at the edge and form knife edge
-if on curved area should be curved and if on straight edge should be straight.
-stitches should be neat and straight.
