I. Arousal and sustaining of learners' attention. This may be attained by:
- Tonal variation and modulation of speech
- Spelling out and emphasizing the lesson objectives at the start of the lesson.

- Using the right question technique and posing questions that the learners can answer

Involves breaking down the material to be learnt into manageable portions, planning each portion according to sequence and linking the portions together as they are mastered.
