Summary

ABSTRACT

Background information: In order to boost an infected person's immune response to a ribonucleic acid (RNA) virus infection, nutrition management/treatment is critical. Therefore, this study will assess nurses’ knowledge and attitude on nutritional management of the critically ill Covid-19 patients. Broad objectives: To assess nurses’ knowledge and attitude on the nutritional management of critically ill covid-19 patients at the main critical care unit KNH. Study methodology: The study will employ descriptive cross-sectional study design. The study will be conducted in the critical care unit KNH and it will involve nurses working in the unit. Simple random sampling method will be used to select the sample size of 82 nurses to participate in the study. Simple structures questionnaire will be used in data collection for the study. The questionnaires will be designed based on the study objectives and it will be self-administered. Actual data collection will be supervised by the researcher and it will take approximately one week. Quantitative data will be coded, then put into a work excel sheet and fed into the statistical package for social sciences software version 26.0 and analyzed quantitatively to generate descriptive statistics (mean, mode, median and percentages) which will then be presented in tables, graphs and charts. The findings of the study will be shared with the KNH administration and the KNH School of nursing where the copy will be made available in the library. The study findings will help identify the level of nurses’ knowledge and attitude on the nutritional management of the critically ill Covid-19 patients thereby informing the strategy planning on ways to promote nutritional management of the critically ill Covid-19 patients which in turn will help improve nutritional management of critically ill Covid-19 patients thereby promoting their prognosis and outcome of patient’s management.
