ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture shall be: -

A) Holders of KCSE with mean grade of C+ with passes at C or above in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics

or Physics or Geography, and any one of the following; - English, Kiswahili, Physics (if not included

above), History and Government, Geography (if not included above), Christian Religious Education,

Islamic Religious Education, Hindu Religious Education, Home Science, Art and Design, Agriculture,

Aviation Technology, Computer Science, French, Germany, Arabic, Music, Business Studies.

(B) Holders of K.A.C.E or equivalent with minimum 2 principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least

a subsidiary pass in Mathematics. If Mathematics was not offered at K.A.C.E, then it is accepted at

Ordinary Level but with a minimum of a credit pass.

(C) Holders of a Diploma in Biological Sciences or related sciences from a recognized institution with credit

or distinction, with KCSE mean grade of C or above.

(D) Holders of a degree in biological sciences or related sciences from a recognized University.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS AND EXEMPTIONS

(A) CREDIT TRANSFER
A candidate from a recognized university, or any other equivalent institution recognized by the University of Nairobi senate, wishing to transfer to B.Sc. Horticulture programme at the University of Nairobi shall be allowed to transfer credits from his/her University if those credits are deemed relevant and meet the required minimum contact hours. A University of Nairobi student who obtains a credit or credits from a recognized university shall also be allowed to transfer those credits to the University of Nairobi. The transfer of credits shall not be more than a third (1/3) of the total prescribed credits and/or course units required for the award of B.Sc. Horticulture degree.

(B) EXEMPTIONS
-Senate may exempt students from some courses on recommendation of the Faculty Board provided that: -
-Such candidates had taken those courses in a recognized University or equivalent institution and had achieved a pass grade.
Candidates seeking such exemption submit a duly completed senate approved form specifying the courses for which exemption is desired and attach evidence of above, showing contents of what was studied.
- Courses specified above are to satisfy the requirements of the first year of study only. Candidates requiring exemption from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year courses shall in the absence of credit transfer be required to sit university examination and attain at least pass grade, which will then be used in the degree classification.
- Course units recommended for exemption should not exceed 1/3 of the total units in the degree programme.
- A non-refundable course exemption fee as determined by the University be paid with each application for exemption.
Entry requirements.
(i) Mean grade of C+(plus) at KCSE with a C in Mathematics or
Physics, C+(plus) in Biology or Chemistry, Biological Sciences and
Physical Sciences. OR

(ii) Holders of a recognized Higher
National Diploma in Agriculture or related discipline are eligible for
admission into the 3rd year of the degree programme OR

(iii) Holders of a recognized Ordinary Diploma, in Agriculture or related discipline,
with distinction and credit are eligible for admission into the 2nd
year of the degree programme.

Mode of study.
Full time.
Admission requirements.
(a) Mean grade C+ at KCSE or equivalent with at least C plain in Biology/Biological Sciences, Chemistry/Physical Sciences and any one of the following:
(i) Mathematics.

(ii) Physics or Geography.OR

(b) KACE or equivalent with at least two Principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and one Subsidiary pass in Mathematics, Physics or Geography.OR

(c) Mean grade C at KCSE and a Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Biological or related sciences with at least a credit pass.

Course duration.
Four years.
A mean grade of at least C+ (plus) or its equivalent in KCSE,
and depending on the degree cluster at least C+ in three of the
following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics,
Agriculture, Geography, Home Science, Computer Studies, Commerce and
Economics. OR
A-level certificate with at least one principal in the subjects indicated above. OR
Diploma with a minimum of Credit Pass in related field of study from a recognized institution.
Applicants holding any of the qualifications below shall be eligible for admission:
(a) A mean grade of C+ at KCSE with C+ in Chemistry and Biology and C in either Mathematics or Physics.

(b) KNEC Diploma in Horticulture or its equivalent.

(c) Diploma in Horticulture

(d) Undergraduate Degree

Eight semesters
kcse with an average grade C+ (C plus)\passed at one sitting from at least seven subjects drawn from subject groupings as specified by the Knec or its equivalent. OR Have one of the following combinations of passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination: Two (2) Principal passes obtained at the same sitting. OR Two (2) Principal passes obtained at different sittings provided the passes are of Grade C or higher.
Entry requirements.
KCSE Mean Grade C+ and a minimum grade of C (plain) in each of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics/Geography Or C (plain) in each of the following subjects: Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics/Geography and C (plain) in English/Kiswahili, or 3rd Group II subject, or a Group III subject, or any Group IV or any Group V.

(i) A minimum of C+ at KCSE with C Chemistry, Agriculture, Biology or Biological Science, C- in English/Kiswahili and Mathematics or Physics. OR

(ii) KACE certificate with two relevant principal passes.

Those holding a Diploma will join second year while those holding a Higher National Diploma will be admitted to third year.
