Following are factors that led to the repeal of section 2A of the constitution
1.Pressure from bilateral and multilateral donors who demanded that Kenya government should democratise,uphold good governance,accountability and transparency as well as respect human rights before aid could be given.
2.Pressure from multiparty activists such as civil society,lawyers,journalists,public universities on the government to allow multiparty democracy.Politicians such as charles Rubia,Kenneth Matiba,Martin Shikuku,Prof. Wangari Maathai,james Orengo,Masinde Muliro and Raila Odinga also played a role in agitating for the repeal of section 2A
3.Political developments in other parts of the world were having impacts in Africa incuding kenya e.g in eastern Europe the communist countries were breaking away from the then Soviet Union due to liberal reforms introduced by soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
4.Following the end of the coldwar between USA and USSR,USA and her Western allies needed not protect dictatorial governments in Africa which gave room for multipartism including kenya
5.KANU policies which failed to accommodate divergent views made critics strengthen the fight for multipartism
5.The findings of the then Vice President Hon.George Saitoti led Review Committee of 1990 in which it was recommended that the infamous queue voting system be done away with and also abolition of party explusions.
6.Pressure also came from the clergy on the government to allow multipartism and politics of tolerance.Among those vocal were Bishop Alexander Muge,BishopHenry Okullu,Rev.Timothy Njoya and Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops etc
