Advantages of a microwave oven
1. It saves time and energy
2. It can save on washing up if foods are cooked and served in the same vessel
3. It is easy to clean
4. There are no problems of cooking smells or condensation
5. Flavor retention of foods is superior to conventional methods
6. It can be used to defrost speeding up food preparation
7. It is mobile and can be used in rooms other than the kitchen

Disadvantages of a microwave oven
1. It takes up work surface space
2. It is not suitable for cooking all foods e.g. pastry and biscuits
3. Metal pans must be avoided, therefore not all conventional cookware is suitable
4. Timing is critical if overcooking is to be prevented
5. It needs to be maintained carefully, e.g. door seal needs to be checked
6. Money required for initial outlay
