If there is one thing that Kenyan youths are keen about, it is success. Many youths work their hearts out to earn a living from many enterprises and in this article i will mention a few that i have seen working.

Online jobs
With the increasing rates of technological improvements and innovations, many Kenyan youths have indulged in internet jobs. Online jobs are of many types. They range from website designing, data entry, writing of articles, referral programs, selling of mobile applications, selling of software, selling of goods on e-Bay and OLX among many other jobs. Once you identify the specific type of work you would like to do, one can venture into online business and make a good amount of money. The main secret of online business is patience and authenticity.

Network marketing
There are many companies that have been introduced in Kenya that mainly do network marketing. This venture mainly involves generating a network of people using a given product and you earn from using and also selling these products. Some examples of such companies include Organo Gold, GNLD, VEMMA, SocialBiz Connect, Tasly’s, Forever Living among many others. To succeed in such companies one has to learn how to connect with people. A social person with convincing powers can manage to work in such companies easily.

Agriculture
Since majority of Kenyan youth hail from agricultural backgrounds it is easier for them to identify with agricultural practices. Kenya is an agricultural country and the good news is that the industry has not been utilized as supposed. There are many unexploited areas in agriculture that youths can venture into and earn a living. Plants like coriander, capsicum, tomatoes, onions, cabbages and kale rarely miss on anyone’s table. The problem is that the cultivation of these plants has been left to a few individuals who due

to monopoly sell these products at high prices. The standards of production of such crops have also been done at lower levels by the few farmers. This leaves room for young minds to venture into this practice and improve standards and add value to the products to gain even more money from them.

Event organization
Kenyans are always having ceremonies during weekends and holidays. The many functions that take place around the country lack one major thing most of the time and that is tents, caterers and a good public address system. Many youths especially those in universities for instance receive free money from the government. Many use this money for entertainment and return back to being broke and wait for another disbursement from the government. If youths formed groups and combined efforts to buy the materials required for such functions it would be a good way to earn a living in the short and long term.

Poultry farming
This is one of the most profitable industries that any youth can get involved in. I will use the example of broiler chicken to explain this part. Broilers take about six weeks to mature. They can be sold earlier in some cases where demand is high. Few farmers keep broiler chicken and the demand from hotels and other institutions is high with a low supply. These chickens require a lot of input however but within a few weeks your input can be restored with a profit.

Stationery and Printing
For the students who are in colleges and universities this venture is a profitable one due to the amount of work it is involved in. Photocopying of class notes for fellow students and many other resources will earn a student enough money. The good thing about such ventures is that in some institution you do not worry about electricity bills or rent for you can do your business from the comfort of your room.
Those are the few business ideas that I may suggest to young people of this blessed country. I have practiced all of the above and I do not regret working in any of these ventures.
