Insomnia is defined as difficulty in getting sleep. Try the following home remedies to get sound sleep.
1. Get a cosy bed and pillow. Sleep may elude if the bed is too hard or if the pillows are not right.
2. Avoid napping during the day since this causes lack of sleep during the night.
3. Exercise in the morning or in the late afternoon. Doing aerobic exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming or jogging facilitates sleep. However, do not exercise too close to bedtime.
4. Eat foods that have sedative effects. For example, sugary foods eaten about thirty minutes before bedtime can act as an effective sedative. Sugary foods include: cookies, a cup of milky tea or chocolate drink. In addition, honey has a sedative effect. Add one tablespoon of honey to some herbal tea or some warm milk for a relaxing pre-sleep drink.
5. Take a glass of milk. It triggers sleep.
6. Try to maintain a uniform sleeping pattern. Keep a strict ssleep-wake schedule even on weekends.
7.Avoid foods or beverages that contain caffeine especially starting at noon. Caffeine stimulates the brain thereby causing lack of sleep.
