Limitations of planning in developing countries like Kenya

There are a number of reasons that may make a country to fail or miss achieving the set development goals. Developing countries more often are faced with some unseen problems which automatically keep them out the ring of proper development. There are reasons therefore that may limit planning in developing countries. These may include among others;

1. Insufficient data.

The available data in the country cannot be relied on since it is insufficient and cannot support the possible requirement by statistical systems. The data that should be available in the country is not adequately sieved to meet the possibly needed data.

2. Unreliable data.

The data available is also inadequate. Collection methods of data are still poor and this end up giving unreliable data.

3. Lack of appropriately qualified and experienced personnel.

The appropriate and qualified personnel who should be considered relevant persons to collect and analyze data are also not still fully qualified for this function.

4. Lack of necessary technical facilities.

The facilities that should be used to analyze and make accurate conclusions on data collected plus those facilities to store adequately the collected data are not adequate.
5. High levels of illiteracy.

The high level of illiteracy in Kenya has been another challenge that limits planning in the developing countries.

6. Unanticipated economic disturbances.

Both external and internal economic disturbances may pose unanticipated problems to the country and this poses a problem.

7. Institutional weaknesses.

Such weaknesses such as lack of coordination, political and bureaucratic corruption, excessive bureaucratic procedures and private objectives by political leaders are among other limitations that may affect planning in the developing countries.
Other limitations that may limit planning in the developing countries include among others,
8. Deficiencies in plans and their implementation
9. Lack of political will, lack of commitment and political will since they have higher-level decision making.
10. Limited range and effectiveness of policy instruments.
