Today, blogs are commanding the online world. They are almost becoming like a CV for every writer who wants to be hired online. Blogs are becoming like academic papers that you need to present at a job interview. They verily could be just what you need to get your writing a couple notches higher, even attracting clients like mega corporations who are on the lookout for web content, always. Don’t you now understand why you need to have a blog as a writer? Exactly.

A blog will act as your portfolio that will help showcase your work. In the web community, it is your basket-collection (portfolio) that defines you. It is what will speak volumes about your capabilities—about what you can offer, and offer it well. In other words, your portfolio will determine your worth as a writer. It will help shout from the rooftops about who you really are in the writing niche.

But that’s not all. A blog can help tell just how much influential you are as a writer. Your subscriber numbers, including followings, should exude the authority that you can command in the blogosphere. For instance, let’s say that your blog has up to 30, 000 subscribers plus a following of 40, 000+; that alone is enough to convince the dumbest of fools that you are a recognized name online. Consequently, you could win the attention of any potential client. That is what this ultra-powerful tool can do for you.

As if it’s not enough, this terrific ‘device’ will provide room for you to describe yourself and your writing services, thanks to the about me page. You for sure can tell the world of who you are, what you do, what your blog offers, your goals etc. and most important of all, the kind of writing services you

offer—whether you are a copywriter, an academic writer, a blog writer, a guest blogger, a ghost writer, an article writer or re-writer etc. In short, a blog is tantamount to you and your shop, all at a single location, just perfect enough for clients to ‘ambush’ you, which in fact is every writer’s dream.

A blog should provide an opportunity for you to directly request clients to hire you. You could create a ‘higher me page’ for this purpose. It is a page where you’ll include charges for your writing services, and fully market the heck out of you. Remember, no writer wants to be paid peanuts (some writers make a living writing), and that’s why the price you set for your services should be a bit higher than that which is offered at content mills. Yet, the price has to match the quality of the services you have to offer. Do not set a price way too high than what you can offer, or set it far too low than what you can deliver.

We aren’t done yet. A blog can help increase followings on your social media profiles. Of course, you’ll have buttons of your Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc. accounts listed on your blog. What a not so expensive way to woo your audience into your social media platforms, while increasing your following, readership and influence alike. The reason I said it is the ‘least expensive’ way to obtain followers is that you won’t need to buy Twitter followers, or Pinterest followers, the way I see other writers do.

And now look at this: You could diversify your earning potential by monetizing your blog. Once you have hit massive subscriber figures, you can place affiliate links on your website, sell eBooks, or even ad space. Plus if you wish, you could as well make use of third party advertisers like Google AdSense and Chitika, among others.

Certainly, a blog is a tool that every writer should grab with both hands.
