ABSTRACT
English is an examinable and compulsory subject in KCPE and KCSE, except for learners with hearing impairments who may opt for the Kenyan Sign Language instead of English. It is very critical, broad and useful subject which covers all areas of learning in schools and colleges. In career progression, it is taken into consideration. It is a medium of instruction in schools and it is also a National language as well as an official language in Kenya. English is also taught and used in other countries outside Kenya and Africa in general.
The purpose of this study is to find out the cause, effects and possible solutions to the poor performance in English in Ndanai girls Secondary school. It also aims to address the challenges and attitudes towards learning the same despite the fact that the school community carries personalities from other language groups apart from the Kalenjin who are the natives of the area around the school.. It aims to finding out performance of English and come out with remedies of solving the challenges faced in teaching English in all the classes beginning from lower Secondary to upper Secondary in my school.
